Thank you for all your lovely comments on Marion. I have now completed the grass down the bottom and am just waiting on my last colour to arrive so I can finish up the dog and the tree.

I have completed a piece for an exchange due at the end of the month and also pulled some smalls charts for some upcoming exchanges in February.

I have also made a start on this beauty.

Thanks to dear Suzanne I was able to get the conversions and make a start on my CHS "Alphabet Blocks". I was lucky enough to find a large enough piece of evenweave in my stash so that I can stitch it all together and have it framed when its finished.

Marion Progress!

I have been stitching away on Marion and here is where I am up to. The tree and animal down the bottom I have to buy thread for, so until that arrives I can only finish up the grass and then she will have to wait to be finished.

I also pulled these other charts from my stash and they will hopefully be worked on throughout the year, aswell as my plan to start on LHN's Little Neighbourhood. I wanted to make a start on my Carriage House "Alphabet Blocks" too but the threads are only in GAST with no conversions, so this one might have to take a backseat until I can afford to buy all the GAST threads.

Winding Up 2011!

Here we are at the last day of 2011, and I really dont think I will have another finish by tonight, so I thought I would tally up my finishes for the year.

27 Finishes

Exchanges = 17
ME stitches = 4
Gifts = 6

Huge difference in numbers from last year. I had 50 finishes last year and 23 of those were exchanges. I think the difference came down to our financial situation and money crunching.

Next year I will still carry on with my exchanges as I really do enjoy them and I have also picked out an assortment of ME stitches to work on aswell.

In my last post I showed a sneak peek pic of the ME stitch I am working on now. Well Melissa guessed correctly, its Marion The Librarian by LaDDa, however I am only stitching her I will not be stitching the wording down the bottom.

When our mail service resumed on Wednesday after the Christmas break I received a lovely surprise in the mail. It was a parcel from my dear friend BeckySC. She sent me two flower frogs. Now I have searched antique stores here in my home town which incidentally has a main street lined with antique stores as its one of the oldest suburbs in Perth, and I have never been able to find a single flower frog ever!!! So to receive two from dear Becky is such a treat. She also sent me a gorgeous stitched finish, a little tree design with star buttons on its very own hornbook (my first ever hornbook too!!) its soo small and beautifully finished, what a treasure! And last but not least she filled the box with ribbon trims, another wonderful treat to grow my ribbon collection. Thank you soo much Becky, it was like Christmas all over again.

PS. Here is a picture of my son having a blast on a giant blow up water slide. His friend across the road got this for Christmas and he invited my son over to try it out. This was on Tuesday and incidentally our temperatures reached 39 degrees and it was stinking hot.

O' Christmas Tree

I thought I would post a photo of my Christmas tree and display this year. It seems that each year it grows with cross stitched decorations from soo many of my wonderful stitching friends, decorations lovingly made for me throughout the years in exchanges and as special gifts. I get soo excited as I take them out of storage and go through them all. I dont use tinsel on my tree, I have never been a fan of it, so its just lights and my decorations.

This year I placed my tree in front of my bureau and used the top to display my collection of larger ornaments. I have had to use a chair to hold onto the stockings though as the bureau edges are bevelled and they dont hold up my pewter stocking holders, so I have had to place them on the edge of the chair and two others hanging from the chair top.

I'm hoping to expand on my reindeer collection after receiving the gorgeous silver one from Kim, however I have had the gold pair for a few years now. The Santa statue is a newer addition from about two years ago but I love his old appearance (I love the old time looking Santa's) and the hanging velvet advent calendar I have had for quite a while too.

I hope you have enjoyed a peek inside my home during this festive season.

In my last post I promised a start up picture of the ME stitch I am working on. Well here is a teaser pic, can anyone guess which design it is?

I also managed to sneak this little ornie finish in before the big day too!

Christmas Exchanges

Hi everyone, I hope you are all ready for Christmas. We finished up over the weekend getting one final gift and we are now all set. Its just too hectic to go anywhere near the shops during the last week, so I stay far away.

I can now show you the lovely exchanges from the Stitched With Love Winter Wonderland Exchange.

Here is what I sent to my partner Rowyn.

And here is what I received from my partner Kim. Kim sure did spoil me, opening up the parcel and seeing all these packages was soo exciting.

Here are the goodies that were inside those gorgeous wrapped gifts. I was spoilt with gorgeous reindeer goodies. Thats a black shopping bag down the bottom right corner with reindeer across the front, and a sparkly silver statue and teatowels, WOW I just cant believe my luck, what beautiful and thoughtful things to receive.

And the wonderful stitched piece I received.

Kim said in her card that "sadly the xs piece is not one of my best", well Kim I say your wrong because its absolutely gorgeous and I love it to bits. I have always loved this reindeer design having stitched it for another exchange myself and always wanted to do one for me, now I dont have to as I have a lovely sparkly one of my own and the colours match in with my Christmas decorations perfectly. I think this will be a piece that I will treasure for many years to come, I just love it. Thank you Kim - Merry Christmas.

A Christmas Gift For ....

Lisa S. I received an email from Lisa letting me know her parcel had arrived.

I stitched a small hanging ornie for Lisa's stitched gift.

The Trilogy "Santa Ornamentology"

Stitched on evenweave using DMC and beaded edging.

And the extra goodies included a Christmas garland of Santa and his washing on the line (too cute!), Xmas bag, Bent Creek chart, floss, stickers and a little reindeer charm that I didn't get a photo of.

I have finished stitching another beaded edge ornie (photo soon) and have now started work on a ME stitch. Its a design I took a fancy to when I visited my friend Pokua. I just need to pick up one more DMC colour and I will be ready, I will show you a progress photo soon and you can try and guess what design it is.

Stitching Between Friends Exchange

A group of 6 stitchers got together and formed the Stitching Between Friends Exchange group. Our first exchange is a Christmas themed one. I was partnered with Pokua who happens to live here in Perth WA only a 20 minute drive away. So we decided to get together and have afternoon tea at her house and exchange our goodies.

Here is the beautiful exchange I received from Pokua.

Stitched on hand dyed linen using a variegated thread.

Finished as a cube/large pinkeep.

Extras included a piece of 32ct Belfast natural raw opalescent fabric, a packet of thread drops, heart tape measure and some chocolates.

Stitched on Light Blue 28ct evenweave using DMC.

Finished as a wallhanging.

Extras included a star shaped Christmas plate, a pair of Christmas ornies and a sheet of Christmas stickers.

We had such a delightful day, it was so nice to spend time with someone who enjoys the same hobby and has similar tastes in stitching. I look forward to our next get together Pokua, and thank you for inviting me over.

I am currently working on some ornies at the moment, two are finished and ready to go so I should be able to show them soon.

Thank you all for the comments you left and the emails I received in regards to my last post and my kidney stone issue. I am delighted to say that when I went in for my ultrasound there was no sign of it anywhere. So I am one of the lucky ones that didn't even feel it pass. WooHoo!! It still took a few more days for the bruising and swelling to go down after being poked and prodded by the ultrasound wand and I also have a large bruise where they placed a drip in my arm (which is still quite dark and purple) but I'm happy to report that I am now pain free.

Fall Into Halloween Exchange

I particpated in the SWL Fall Into Halloween Exchange and again had such a wonderful time stitching and finding things for my partner and also receiving such a wonderful parcel from my partner.

This exchange I sent to Mel who chose a Fall parcel.

Here is what I stitched for her.

LHN "Acorns"

Stitched on beige/coffee evenweave using required threads.

Didn't stitch the snow and used leaf embellishments instead.

Finished as a pinkeep.

Here is a picture of everything I included in the parcel.

I was lucky to receive my parcel from June and here is what she sent me.

I felt soo very spoilt receiving all these lovely items from June. She incorporated my love of hedgehogs with a little ornament and a wooden button, there was a beautiful hanging ornamental leaf, fabric, notepads and other little items and check out that gorgeous wildlife calendar. Thank you soo much June, I love all you sent.

Now onto my bad news. I had a little scare at the beginning of the week and ended up in hospital not once, but twice! First at midnight on Sunday/Monday I had to have my husband take me into the Emergency Department as I was suffering excrutiating pain in my side and abdomen area, after some tests, fluid and pain relief I was sent for a scan in the morning and the culprit turned out to be a kidney stone. Well let me tell you that they are not wrong when they say these things are extremely painful, the pain is basically the stone coming from your kidney and moving its way down the tract to the bladder. Holy Moly, I have never experienced pain like it, and hope to never again. The doctor said it was only small and I could pass it myself and sent me home with meds. I was fine the next couple of days, only experiencing drowsiness from the meds, but Thursday nights I was hit with a massive migraine and nausea and my husband took me back to the hospital after phoning them first to see what he should do. They said I could have an infection or side affect from the stone and it was best to get me back in. After more fluids and pain relief they decided that it was probably just a one off migraine and sent me home again.

Now I have to wait until Monday to go back to the Doctors for a new scan to see if the stone has passed. I havent felt anything, but today has probably been the best day I have had soo far. I'm hoping that it has gone and I havent noticed and then I can get to my normal life again. I havent even been able to stitch much, because when I concentrate too much it brings a headache on and I dont want to get another severe one.

So wish me luck everyone, I'm hoping its made its way out and "somehow" I havent noticed. It can happen, I've been reading stories, just hoping I'm one of the lucky ones I guess!

Lisa It's Your Birthday!!

Well its actually my friend Lisa S's birthday tomorrow (Oct 31) but I thought I had better get this posted today as I might not get a chance tomorrow.

I loved getting this parcel together for Lisa's birthday. I wanted to make her a small item and then a more main piece aswell. So for the smaller item I decided to try a new finish. I had some wicker coasters, so I sanded one side slightly and attached my stitching to it with a smaller round cardboard frame, then when that was all in place, I trimmed it with some cording and used a small flower and pins at the top to disguise the cording join. You could add a hanger aswell if you wanted but I chose to leave it as a stand up ornie.

The design is a Homespun Elegance one taken from the pamphlet called "Stitching Things".

The main item I stitched for Lisa is a Prairie Schooler design and its one of the Prairie Fairies. I finished this one as a pinkeep. I love the lace and gold trim I found for the bow detail.

All of you that are familiar with Lisa's blog already know that she raises butterflies from their caterpillar stage through to them hatching and them lets them go free when they are ready. Well my son was soo fascinated by this that when he found out I was sending her a birthday parcel he wanted to include something himself. He is only 7 years old and he walked into my study room with this gorgeous multi-coloured picture he had coloured in for Lisa. He said to me that he wanted the butterfly lady to have this picture to keep as she couldn't keep her other butterflies. I was soo proud of him and the way he had come up with this very thoughtful gift. Lisa wrote to say that she loves her paper butterfly that flew all the way from Australia to her and she has it next to her computer. He was thrilled to bits when he saw the picture of it on her blog.

I also found a company in France that makes wooden plaques, thread holders, door signs and other stitching accessories and I asked them if they would make a thread keep in the shape of a butterfly and paint it for me in Lisa's favourite colour purple. I love how this one turned out. I also included in Lisa's parcel a butterfly necklace, some fabric, threads and a magnetic plaque which says "Its A Wonderful Life".

So dear friend, I wish for you a lovely birthday tomorrow, enjoy yourself and hugs from me.

Friendship Bag

It was recently my dear friend Angela's birthday. This year I wanted to surprise her with a finish I had never tried before. I had a vision for the design I had chosen to stitch and I was determined to see it through. First up I went on the hunt for a tutorial ... Now some of the tutorials were way beyond my skill level, they looked so intricate with buttons and zippers and way too much going on, I just knew I would never master them, so I eventually found the one I was looking for and got all my supplies together. Out came the sewing machine, pinned the fabric and placed it under the little foot and "Clunk" - the sewing machine didn't want to work. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it going. However, I was not going to let this hunk of plastic ruin my vision, I would just have to do it all by hand - and that is what I did. Now it took me a lot longer to get to that final point where it all came together, but boy was it exciting!!!! Talk about the most exciting finish I have ever done and with my own little fingers slaving away over it too, it made it that much more special to me. Granted, its not perfect, I wish I had given it abit more material at the top, but I know this for next time.

Without further ado may I present to you my first ever bag finish.

The lady in blue is supposed to represent Angela as it is her favourite colour and she has lighter hair, and the other lady is me. The little heart in the centre has the words "Made With Love" engraved on it.

I have some exchange pieces to share with you that I have received recently.

Firstly is the Blackbird Exchange that I participated in at Michelle's blog. I received from April. She stitched for me a stocking from the Halloween Stocking booklet, it is stitched on 30ct linen and utilises WDW, GAST and CC threads. This is my first stocking finish and I love it. Thank you April. April also included a LK chart for me and also the JCS Ornie preview mag. Thanks again!

Second is my exchange piece from Kathy A for the Seasonal Exchange Summer round.

The design is "Strawberry Biscornu" from The Gift of Stitching magazine in June. She also used one of the strawberry motifs to make a matching scissor fob. Kathy added beads around the outside of the biscornu and actually stitched our initials and the date on the underside. Kathy used Zweigart's 28 count Cashel linen "Adobe". I have displayed them both with the strawberry box that I received from Christina early last month for another exchange. They all sit perfectly together. Thank you Kathy, I love them to bits!!

As promised here are the pictures of the lovely exchange I received from Cath.

Cath took my love of hedgehogs and stitched The Workbasket's "Quaker Hedgehog" for me, finished as a little arch shaped scissor pocket. The scissor fob design, she took the centre from the hedgehog body and made it into a full motif. How fantastic!!

She also included some amazing goodies for me, fabric, floss, notebook, a gorgeous Tudor pin badge and a chart from my wishlist.

Private Exchange with Cath

Myself and Cath over at The Stitchin Chicken have completed a private exchange together. When I put a call out on my blog at the beginning of the year for anyone who was interested in doing an exchange with me, Cath let me know that she was interested but couldn't start until later in the year as she was currently finishing up with another private exchange. We both set a date of around June 20 and had an open theme.

I stitched Cath a CCN design "Cherry Hill" and made it into a pinkeep. Apparently this is Cath's first pinkeep. I also included an array of different goodies including a lovely reindeer christmas ornie that I found. Here are pics of what I sent:

My New Shelf

I have been meaning to post a photo of my new shelf that I won on Ebay for quite a while (well, since I finished decorating my stitching room) and I keep forgetting. So since I cant show you any stitching at the moment as some exchanges are in transit and waiting to be received, I thought this would be the perfect time.

When I saw this shelf on Ebay I knew I had to have it, so I fought hard for it. It had the perfect look that I was after (shabby chic) the little hanging rail at the bottom and the drawers with the handles that I could also hang things off, and not to mention two big shelf spots. So without further ado, here is my beloved shelf.

Some of you may be able to spot some pieces that you have stitched for me in the past. I love it, I think it was made to display cross stitch pieces.

Ornie for Angela

May was Angela's month to receive in our Ornie Swap group. I posted towards the end of the month and she just received it the other day.

I had alot going on that month so I sent it off to Karen V who had just started her own finishing business and asked her to make an ornie for me. I supplied the backing fabric but I asked Karen to add whatever trim and ribbon she thought best suited it. Karen chose a lovely chenille trim to match in with the red/maroon in the stitching and a bone coloured bow for the hanger. I was soo happy with the finished piece, Karen did a remarkable job. And I am also pleased to announce that Angela loved it too.

I received a lovely parcel from my dear friend Angela for my birthday yesterday.

I have oohed and ahhed over this design for soo long, wanting to eventually stitch it, as I just love the design and the colours, Angela knew this and soo I was the lucky recipient of The Trilogy's "Happy Bunny Bunny Day" finished into a large pillow. Doesn't the fabric just match in perfectly! And even though Angela told me that the trim gave her some grief in the sewing machine I absolutely love it.

The biggest surprise of all is that lovely bracelet that she sent, the card inside the box says;

Love, Friend, Forever

Love your friends.

Treasure their friendship.

It will be forever.

The bracelet has the words Love, Friend and Forever on the large silver discs and a beautiful etched dangling heart fob at the clasp. It is just amazing and I am honoured to wear it. I shall treasure it always.

Thank you Angela, you truly are a wonderful friend. Hugs!!!

A Framing Complete!

I finally got around to using one of those lovely frames I was lucky to receive from my parents.

I framed my "There Is A Garden" finish.

Now, the smallest frame was too small, and this frame was the next one up, so to fill in some of the blank space I pinned a piece of lace down one side and highlighted it with a piece of brown ribbon to match in with the design. I am happy with the final look.

I have been busy stitching, but what I am working on are all for upcoming exchanges so I cant really show anything right now.

I have been busy getting together some items to go with a private exchange piece and also an upcoming Picnic themed exchange piece.

I have just heard that Lisa S has received the piece I stitched for her in our private exchange. We chose a stitching related theme and I found this one as a freebie online. It was great fun to stitch especially using the thread I chose (details below) and then personalising it with our initials.

I was also lucky to be given these lovely frames from my parents on the weekend. They have been doing some clearing out and decided to put some photos together in larger frames so they no longer needed these smaller ones, so I grabbed them. I am hoping to use one of them for my recent "There Is A Garden" finish (as shown in my previous post). My WIP Is Finished!!

YAY, happy, happy dance for me!!!!

Thursday night I managed to finish up my current WIP. What a fun stitch this turned out to be, I loved the colours and the little saying would stick in my head everytime I worked on it. I lost my Grandad in 2005 and my Nana in 2008, so I incorporated their initials into the hills at the bottom "FBC" and "JHC", there wasn't really enough room to do anything else but I thought that was a nice subtle way of including them in it.

Help Needed!

Hi everyone,

I was hoping that by putting this out there that one of you might be able to help me.

I am looking for someone that would be willing to do some quilt work for me. I have a large cross stitch piece that I would love to have made into a lap quilt size or small wallhanging size, I have the fabric already I am just needing someone that can piece it together, add batting and then quilt it for me. I am obviously willing to pay (by Paypal if overseas) or direct debit, Paypal or cheque for within Australia.

As mentioned I have the fabric so the quilter would just need batting and the cotton.

I am really wanting to have this piece finished as it was a round robin that I completed a few years ago and means alot to me. I just dont have the necessary skills to finish it.

If you know someone that would be willing to work this for me, then please email me with details, it would be very much appreciated. I am happy to send photos if required first.

My Blog In Print

I remember seeing on Fiona's blog a link to a website that takes your blog posts and makes them into a glossy book. I decided to go on over and take a look. I had a little play around to see what the product would look like and then decided that I would have a think about it and go back. In the meantime, I received a discount voucher through an email so I decided to go ahead and give it a go. I thought I would print my last years blog posts into a book, if I was then pleased with the final outcome of the book I would then go back and print out each year as its own book to keep as keepsakes of my blogging and stitching time. Well I received my first book in the mail this week, and I am soo pleased with it that I am definately going back for more. Each page is glossy paper and the print looks very professional, you choose your own picture for the front of your book and also your heading, there are also many different background prints to choose from too. Here is a picture of my blog book.

I was also the lucky winner of one of Cath's giveway's on her blog. She also sent me some lovely extras including a pair of scissors and a rather cute little notebook. The pincushion colours are just lovely.

And for stitching news of my own I heard from Sharon (Daffycat) that she had received the ornie I stitched for her in our Ornie Swap group. I know its not your normal christmassy style design ie. Snowmen, reindeer etc but I loved the colours and subtleness of it. I am pleased that Sharon also loved it.

An Angel Stitch

I recently had to do an angel stitch piece for Elisa, as she missed out in the Winter Exchange on the Seasonal Exchange Blog.

I chose to stitch Elisa this "Joy" ornie by Hands to Work and finished it as a small wallhanging design.

I am pleased to say that Elisa does like it especially since she had to hold out and wait for its arrival, all because one person couldn't follow the rules and exchange etiquette.

Lovely Gifts Received

WOW what a great mail week for me. I have been super lucky!!!

Look at this amazing blogoversary gift I won over at Lisa S's blog. It's "Friendship Bird" by Stitchy Kitty and it was in the Jan/Feb issue of The Gift of Stitching. She used 30ct Hushabye Mint fabric and the Crescent colours floss called for. His "tail feathers" are whole skeins of CC floss called Embers, Sunshine Girl and Jelly Roll. Isn't it just gorgeous!

I just love the colours, they are soo cheery and its such a special finish, one I probably will never see again, soo I love him to bits Lisa, thank you soo much.

Next up I received a PIF gift from Suzanne. The design is by Teresa Wentzler and its called the "English Cottage Sampler". Suzanne finished it as a lovely pincushion pillow with lovely beading around the edges and beaded looped corners. Its just gorgeous and a lovely surprise to receive. Thank you Suzanne.

I spent the weekend doing some finishing. I completed Sharon's ornie for our Ornament Swap group and also a finish for Elisa. I had to angel stitch for Elisa as she never received from her partner in the Seasonal Exchange group. Cant show you them until they are received though.

Next up I start on a private exchange I am doing with Lisa S.

As mentioned in my previous posts I have finished off my Lizzie Kate Snowman 2010. I am just pondering now as to how to finish him off. I have some lovely red christmas fabric that might do the trick but whether he turns into a pillow or a wall hanging or something else, I'm not sure!

I then started work on my next WIP. I have had this design a little while and always wanted to stitch it up. I love the saying and the colours are nice and subtle. Its a design by Homespun Elegance called "There Is A Garden", and here is my progress soo far.

I have checked out some of the designs that came out at market and there are a few there that I wouldn't mind adding to my stash when I get some spare change. I love La-D-Da's - Yellow Bird, Blackbird Design's - Wild Lilies & All Through The Night's - Use Your Talents, funnily enough they all have birds in them. I am also loving Jardin Prive's releases, they are always soo lovely. Is there any at market that really took your fancy?

Well for now I have had to put There Is A Garden away for a little break while I stitch Sharon's ornie in the Ornament Swap group. I started work on it yesterday. I chose a rather different looking design this time, not your average christmassy design of snowmen or santa's etc, but I do think Sharon will love it (I hope).

I also will be starting on my piece for a private exchange I am doing with Lisa S. We chose a stitchy related theme and I already have that design picked out too.

Double Up!

What a surprise to open up my parcel from Kathy K for the Seasonal Exchange Winter Round and find that she stitched for me the exact same design that I stitched for my partner Ann. I had to laugh at the coincidence of it all.

Kathy also made it into a pillow finish for me with a hanger. Its soo lovely and I'm soo glad Kathy chose the design for me, I really loved it when I was stitching it up I was even tempted to stitch it for myself. Thanks Kathy, and thank Rory too for he sure picked out a lovely surprise (it didn't last long I'm afraid, not with my 6 year old).

Stitching & Stash

I have received the fabric and flosses that I ordered to start work on two WIP's that I have pulled out for me this year. I also decided to grab two charts whilst I was at it.

I fell in love with The Goode Huswife's "Home Sweet Home", I love robins (they remind me of my beloved Grandad who I lost in 2005) and the colours in it are soo rich and lovely. The other chart is Heart In Hands "Snow Triplet", some more small xmas designs to come in handy for ornies. The fabric I bought is 28ct Summer Sky Jobelan and 28ct Amber Toast Almond Linen.

I have also been stitching another small design for myself, this is Lizzie Kate's "Snowman 2010", another one I just love the colours in. I have no idea how I am going to finish him up just yet, but I dont have any committment or exchange stitching until March so I had to find something to fill in the time.

A Win For Me!

I was the lucky winner of a giveaway held by Robin of Samplerbird Stitchery on her blog just before Christmas.

Here is what I was lucky enough to win.

Robin included the fabric and the floss aswell. I am looking forward to this one being one of my finishes this year so I can display it this Christmas.

On the stitching front I have finished up stitching two pieces but they are both for exchanges. One is Lori's ornie in our Ornie Swap group and the other is the Seasonal Exchange Winter piece.

I am waiting on an order to be delivered which will have some linen and floss that I need for one of the pieces I want to stitch for myself this year. I have made up a folder and placed inside the charts that I would like to stitch up this year. I am looking forward to quite a few of them.

2010 Achievements

Another year over, how quick that went!!
Well I have tallied up my finishes for the year and it comes down to a grand total of -

50 finishes

ME stitches = 18
Gifts = 5
Exchanges = 23
RAK's = 4

Nice change from last years tally, I stitched alot more for myself this year (5 last year) so that was a good improvement, my exchanges were down this year (30 last year) and I never completed any RAK's last year so that was also a difference there.

Well 2011 will be more ME stitching, I have already picked out some pieces I definately want to do this year. I will also continue with exchanges, however I think I will focus more on doing some private exchanges with stitchers throughout the year. If anyone is interested in doing an exchange with me, please let me know.

As we say goodbye to 2010 I look back and for us as a family it was a mixed year of happy and sad.

The good - my husband getting his new car, me getting a new job, completing some works around the house and meeting new friends.

The bad - losing my Uncle Ken, rains in the middle of the year the likes of which we have never seen here (flooding and hail damage to property and cars), Christmas Day storm and fence damage and a friends cancer scare.

Here's hoping 2011 brings with it great happiness and joy to you all. Thank you for visiting with me and being such lovely friends. I wish you all a Happy New Year!

This was Angela's first needleroll and I'm soo happy that she loved it. I also included some other goodies in her parcel.

I hope one and all had a lovely Christms Day. Our day was great with hot temperatures so we stayed inside most of the day in the aircon. However, things changed for the worse that night. We had a strong storm front hit us and what felt like cyclonic winds raging through our suburb, it was very scary and as I put my head down on my pillow to go to sleep I heard an almighty crash and jumped up to look out the window to see a very large patio roof blowing down the street, it was heading straight for us. It stopped on the verge next door and across the whole road and folded over. This was lucky as it then stopped it from moving any closer and we waited for the emergency services to come out and make it safe. Alas, I had a sleepless night as I wasn't prepared to go to sleep whilst it was still out there. In the morning as the sun rose and we got to survey the damage we had three fences down and our blow up swimming pool was a wreck. So I dont think I will forget this Christmas for a long time.

It was very dark but here are some pictures of the patio on the lawn and across the road and you can see all the dust in the air.

WOW, my first post for December! What a mad month so far, I have spent all my spare time chasing down gifts, shopping around like a mad woman before the real crazy massive crowds get to the shops. I finally finished everything on Thursday and all I have to do now is wrap it all.

More Framing

Hi everyone, today I have some more framing to show you. I put these two pieces in when I picked up my last lot of framing.

When I saw these two Plum Street Samplers Hare's charts I knew I wanted to stitch them and frame them to go together on the same wall. However, the Summer chart was in patriotic colours and I really wanted it to match in with the Spring one, so I changed some things around. I did the mother hare's dress in the same colour as the Spring one and I also matched the flowers to each of the lollypop colours so the designs both tie in together. I love the finished result, I have the perfect wall for them to go on together.

My next large start is the Hesters Needle chart. I ordered some fabric for it which should be arriving next week (hopefully) and I have all the floss colours ready.

Framed Pieces

I picked up my Lizzie Kate Green Flip Its and my Hunt Sampler from the framers the other day and thought you all might like to see them.

I am really happy with the both of them. The Hunt Sampler's frame I wanted to look more of an old style and because I had stitched it all in black I decided that a predominantly black frame was best, I picked one that had a wood colour to the edge as it is going to be going above my bed and the wood edge matches my bed frame.

The Lizzie Kate Green Flipits have been put up on the wall in my study/stitching room and it looks super.

I was super pleased with the both of them.

Angela's Gift

It was my dear friend Angela's birthday last week and my parcel arrived on time.

I always like to make something nice for Angela as she is such a wonderful friend. She loves Lizzie Kate designs and had commented on a pillow finish I had done at the beginning of the year. I looked at the pillow sitting in my stitching basket and thought "Mmm I think that I might take her up on that hint and send this little pillow to a new loving home" so the pillow jumped into her birthday package. I also stitched another small pillow from The Sampler Girl, the design is quite appropriate as Angela is a tea drinker.

The extras included another Sampler Girl chart, some cherry soap from the Body Shop, two bookmarks, cording and some ring binders.

Glad you loved your parcel Angela. Next up is our Halloween exchange, YAY!!

I just received word from Raffaella that she received the exchange I made for her as part of the Private Autumn exchange organised by BeckySC.

I stitched this long pillow up for Raffaella, I was lucky to find a fabric that matched in perfectly with the colours.

I stitched an element of the "Let It Snow" design by JBW Designs. All the snow drops are white beads and the snowmans mouth, eyes and nose are also beads. I used a large bow charm that I placed at the base of the hanger.

He was a fun stitch and I'm glad Lisa likes him.

SWAP Round 4

Hi everyone, remember me telling you all about the parcel I sent to Hungary that vanished, well I sent a replacement parcel and guess what? It arrived within 1 week - WHAT!!! Go Figure, I am confused!!!

Anyway this is the replacement piece I stitched for my partner.

Design by Carinne - Scissor Pouch design but I made it into a wall hanging.

Stitched using DMC on a piece of 28ct edged linen.

I also included a piece of blue/grey linen and a fabric heart.

The original parcel is the first and hopefully only one I have ever had go missing on me in the years that I have been exchanging. The disappointing thing was that the piece I made was one of my absolute favourite exchange pieces I have ever made and that is what upsets me the most, that its out there somewhere with no one to love it!!

A New WIP!

This is a design I have been searching for awhile now for. As soon as I saw the design I knew I had to stitch it as a memorial piece for my Grandad. I was on a mission then, looking everywhere, even Ebay to see if I could buy it, but with no luck. Then a wonderful stitcher came to my rescue - Missy - loaned me her copy of the chart and I am forever grateful.

I Like A Challenge!

I entered a competition over at the LK Lovers blog, it was a challenge to stitch a freebie design (we all chose the Friendship Grows freebie) and make a different finish with it.

I had never made a hanging pillow design before so I decided that was going to be my finish of choice. I had received a similar one in an earlier exchange, so I studied it and worked out how the top part was done and then put it all together.

Here is my finished entry.

The challenge worked on a poll voting system, the participants sent along a photo of their entry and the photos were all put on the blog (with no names attached to them to make it fair) and you voted on your favourite piece.

I am very happy to announce that I came 2nd in the challenge and have won some lovely Lizzie Kate goodies that are on their way in the mail to me. I was soo excited!! My congratulations go out to Karen T who came in 1st place with her beautiful creation. Well done Karen!

I have been stitching but everything has been on exchanges, so I dont have anything else to show at the moment.

A Little Bluebird

This is the surprise RAK gift I had been working on last month. I wanted to send a little gift over to BeckySC to help bring some joy to her during this time . Some of her family are going through a rough time at the moment and Becky is devoting all her time to looking after them. I wrote in her card that I wanted this little "bluebird of happiness" to bring some joy into her life at this time and let her know that her friends are thinking of her.

Becky is truly a wonderful giving person and she has been so friendly and giving to me this year that I have always wanted to make her something from the heart as a thank you, as soon as I saw this little design I just knew I had to stitch it for her.

I have also started work on a replacement piece for the exchange that has gone missing. My partner has checked at her local post office and still nothing has turned up.

A Surprise Fob!

I was the lucky recipient of this gorgeous scissor fob from dear Mylene.

It was such a lovely surprise as she had sent them out as a secret and didn't tell anyone they were coming.

I have mine hanging on my ornie tree.

Thank you soo much Mylene, it was soo lovely of you to think of me and send me such a beautiful stitched item that I will treasure.

Feeling Green?

Hi Everyone,

thought I would show you the progress I have made on my Lizzie Kate Green Flip-Its.

Two down!!

Its quite an enjoyable stitch as the colours are soo cheery and I love the fabric. I actually chose the same fabric as listed on the patterns to use.

I am also really annoyed as I sent out an exchange parcel about 6 weeks ago to Hungary and it hasn't arrived. I am soo gutted as I put soo much into the piece I stitched and I was soo hesitant to send it as I really loved it. I am completely gutted! I dont like the idea that its floating around out there for anyone to have, its soo annoying. I'm still hoping (fingers crossed) that it might just be dawdling along and eventually get there, or at least come home to me, but to be honest I dont think there's much of a chance. Has anybody else had this happen where its amazingly turned up after soo long?

Plant Love Finish!

Here is the Lizzie Kate Round 5 exchange piece I stitched for my partner Michele.

I love this design, its soo colourful, quick, easy and fun to stitch. My finish was a pinkeep.

I have a while now before my next exchange committment, so I started stitching on the Lizzie Kate Green Flip It series. It's not worth me putting up a photo just yet as it's only just started. I think its's going to be another fun stitch though. I also just finished up a RAK I want to send to someone to help cheer them up a little at this time, it's for a fellow stitcher but I don't want to spoil it, so I will release who it's for when they receive it.

Some of my exchanges have arrived at their new homes.

First up here is the ornie I stitched for Conny in our private ornie swap group.

Conny listed Carriage House as one of her favourite designers, so I thought this little Angel from the Alphablocks was the perfect pick for her. I tried out a new style of ornie finish for this one to.

And next up is the piece I sent to Lynn in the Seasonal Exchange Group (link in my sidebar).

This design is a portion of the Shepherds Bush chart "Scatter Sunshine". I attached fabric around the sides, like you would if you were making a pillow and then made it into a wallhanging. I was super pleased with how this one turned out and Lynn loves it too.

Well I havent been told personally but I noticed on the sidebar that my partners name had "received" next to it, so I'm guessing it arrived safely. Here is the piece I made for my partner in the HOE ABC exchange.

Stitched on 28ct antique white evenweave using DMC

I changed it around a little by moving the letters to fit the shape I wanted, I also highlighted the recipients initials in a different colour so they would stand out and added a small charm. I finished it as a pinkeep.

Next post I can show what I received in the SWAP with Nina group, its gorgeous!

I'm Still Here!

Yes I'm still plodding along, but I just havent had anything that I can show you all.

I have my HOE ABC piece out there posted mid June that has still not arrived at its home (and usually when I post to this country the longest is 2 weeks), so I fear it is MIA.

I also have my SWAP piece on its way to Hungary so hopefully that one should be arriving soon.

So until these pieces arrive I dont have much to show I'm afraid. The stitching I have recently finished are all for exchanges or gifts aswell.

I have an exchange break now till mid September so I have to work out what ME stitching I can do next. I have some ideas but I just have to make my mind up.

2 In 1 Day!

Lucky me! Elisa had my name in two exchanges and here is what she made for me.

First up for the Lizzie Kate round 5 she stitched part of the Liberty Sampler and made it into a pinkeep for me.

Secondly here is a lovely pillow she stitched for me in the Seasonal Exchange group (link in my sidebar if you would like to visit us, we are open to new members). This one is a SanMan Original design which was a freebie and its stitched using DMC threads, she also attached all these beads around the outside to the ricrac. Too cute!

I have also finished my Lizzie Kate round 5 piece for my partner and just have to make it up in its finish. Then I will start stitching on my seasonal exchange piece. Elisa was super quick for both these exchanges.

Malinda stitched an online freebie from a french website, using HDF's "Perfect Red" to stitch the design. Isn't it devine!! And what a fabulous flatfold she made it into, flatfolds are one of my favourite finishes.

I have been busy lately stitching a little something for myself inbetween my exchange stitching.

I recently bought some new stash and this was one of the charts I picked.

I plan on stitching the Hare's Summer to go with it aswell, but that one will have to wait till my next break in exchange stitching.

Speaking of exchanges here is a wonderful piece I received from Conny for the Lizzie Kate Exchange Round 4. She especially chose the June stamp for me as it is my birthday month. I love it, its soo colourful and cheery!! Thanks Conny!

And next up here is the Little House Needleworks piece ABC123 I finished at the beginning of the year. I wanted a special finish, so I sent it off to Vonna at The Twisted Stitchers Finishing Service and asked her to make it into a wallhanging for me. This is the beauty that she put together for me. WOW!!!

An Early Birthday Surprise

Its not my birthday till next week, June 2, but I was lucky to receive a birthday parcel from my good friend Angela yesterday. Just look at the wonderful goodies she sent me.

I have loved this particular LK design for ages and always wanted it as a cube finish. What a wonderful surprise to unwrap this one.

And as an extra special unique finish, Angela made this Stitchers Companion finish for me with a PS design. She says its her first but not her last, as she really enjoyed making it.

And the wonderful extras that Angela included were just fab, fabric always comes in handy for me as I am growing my small collection and every bit counts. Gorgeous charms and sweet notelets for me to use.

Angela I cant thank you enough, I love everything and it will be treasured, just as I treasure our friendship.

Blackbirds Exchange Rnd 4

I received word from Marjorie that she had recieved the piece I sent her for Round 4.

There is a bit of a story with this finish. I was going to make a pin pillow, I picked out the colour to stitch the design in and thought I saw the perfect cording to go with it for the finish. I ordered that cording. I finished stitching the design and waited for the cording to arrive. Well... my delight turned to horror when it did finally arrive as the colour was completely different and didn't go with my stitching at all. So I had to make a complete rethink of the finish and ended up with a pinkeep instead.

So here is BB's Bluebird design stitched using a hand dyed thread called Logan Berry on 28ct hand dyed pink evenweave.

I am pleased that Marjorie liked it after all that.

Lizzie Kate Round 4

For round 4 of the Lizzie Kate exchange I had to stitch for April.

I took this colourful umbrella from one of LK's seasons charts and stitched it up to fit perfectly on top of a small box I had. April told me she is using it to store her needle packets in.

I have been stitching away on some exchange pieces which are due out at the end of the month. I have also finished the final RAK for Lisa which will also go in the mail shortly.

Today I received the final ornie from a private group I am in where you are allocated a month and the other ladies stitch you an ornie and send it to you in that month. There are six of us in the group, so I received five ornies. I will take a group shot of them all and promise to post a pic in the next day or so.

I must admit that lately I have lost my finishing mojo, not my stitching mojo, just the finishing side of it. I stitched up a lovely piece that I had in mind for an exchange, but I just couldn't get the finishing right on it. I ended up pulling it apart and putting the stitched piece away in the draw. I was soo disappointed, but it just wasn't coming together right and I wont send something out if I am not completely happy with it. Hopefully it wont be for too long, I have to get others pieces finished soon!

#2 RAK

As mentioned in my previous post here is the 2nd RAK that I made for Ellen.

This design is by Textile Collection and is a motif taken from a Dutch sampler. It is stitched using the required DMC colours on 28ct linen. My finishing of choice is a pinkeep.

I really enjoyed stitching this design, the colours are soo muted and it gives an old look and feel to it.

Here is the RAK piece that I made for Stephanie.

Its a Plum Pudding Needlearts chart called "Bits of Blue" but I stitched it in a different DMC colour. The fabric is 28ct hand dyed pink evenweave and I finished it as a wall hanging.

Easter goodies arrive!

Today I received this lovely parcel from Meghan for our private Easter exchange group.

The stitched piece is by The Drawn Thread "Spot of Spring" and she made it into a lovely hanging ornie. It has pride of place on my stitching room door.

There were also some great extras including a booklet of needles, a cute little "Doodles" kit, some hand dyed thread which came in the large white eggs and the small coloured eggs were holding little carrot shaped lollies (which my son ran off with) and some jellybeans. All this was inside a little plastic zipper case.

Easter Joy!

I received word that Shay received the Easter Exchange I sent her in our private exchange group.

This was my first attempt at this style of finish. I followed the tutorial on BeckySC's blog and it turned out to be quite easy. I have to say that it has become one of my favourite ways to finish an item now along with flatfolds of course.

Major Happy Dancing!!

Yes there was some rather noisy and excited happy dancing going on in my lounge room on Thursday night, and "Why" you might ask....., well I finally finished Homespun Samplar's "The Hunt Sampler" and I'm thrilled to bits with it. Its stitched on 32ct natural linen using DMC 310. This will eventually be framed for ME.

Started - March 12, 2009

Finished - March 18, 2010

So it took me just over a year, but that was stopping and starting alot to do my exchange pieces inbetween and also other smaller projects. It is the largest project I have ever done, and I must say I am very proud of it.

This one culminated from a rather wonderful and generous RAK I received from dear BeckySC. With a few added dollars to my gift certificate and a sign up to be in the Prairie Schooler autoship and here is what I received.

I have been eyeing off the Carriage House Samplings Alphabet Blocks ever since seeing Edgar's beautiful finish.

Unfortunately I dont have any stitching to show as yet, I have been working on some of my RAK's and an upcoming exchange.

Stash Enhancement & New Finish!

I have had a bit of a splurge lately on new stash (I still have another delivery on its way) so I thought I would show you what I have added to my stash this time.

I was visiting one of the ladies who entered my RAK giveaway and on her blog she had some items listed that she wanted to swap, on her wishlist were canvas tote bags that she really wanted, well I had some sitting around not being used so we did a swap, so in the picture below I received from her:

Lizzie Kate's new flip it series - Green (Be Kind to Animals, Ride A Bike & Plant a Tree) I also received the border pattern and all the extra buttons aswell.

I also managed to finish up this lovely design over the weekend. I had a cut out block for a cube style finish that was the perfect size, so this is how it ended up.

Stitched on 30ct pearl grey linen using DMC conversions (thanks Becky!)

I loved the end product soo much that I have decided to keep it for myself.

I just received an email from Ellen S that she has received the Valentines parcel I sent her in the Holiday Exchanges group.

I stitched Ellen a pinkeep, the design is from a Blue Ribbon Designs booklet which I played around with a little and also included some heart extras.

I received this lovely exchange parcel from Malinda yesterday. She stitched for me a lovely pin cushion and little fob, the design is from The Gift of Stitching Magazine. It is all just gorgeous, stitched and finished beautifully.

The extras she included were very generous, 2 large cuts of fabric in a mesh bag, pins, threads and heart tissues.

Barrick Samplers "The Gilded Cage"

I managed to finish this little baby by the end of January, bringing my month total to 5 finishes, with 2 of those finishes for ME!!!

I have wanted to stitch this design for some time and finally got round to fitting it in. I changed up some of the floss colours especially the border because I didn't want too much of the green that was charted. I plan on framing this one and probably my LHN ABC123 finish aswell in the near future.

I also decided to go through my stash and pull all the designs that I want to stitch for myself. I found a nice folder which became my To Do folder and each chart is placed in the pocket inside and I will gradually work through them inbetween my exchange committments.

I am currently working on an Easter exchange piece and have chosen a colourful SanMan design for it.
